A
New Breed of Dub Issue Three (Dubhead, 2002)
*GUEST
REVIEW*
If
you only peruse the mainstream music press a lot of genres tend to get ignored.
Flick through the NME, Mojo, Q, and other generalist publications and its
unlikely that you will come across any of the bands on this compilation. A New
Breed of Dub Issue Three features 16 tracks of what is loosely called "nu
dub." Tracks include samples, effects, DJs, and more echo than you can shake a
stick at. If dancehall, ragga, bashment, and jungle have passed you by or are
just not your thing, then this Dubhead compilation could be a nice primer into
modern dub. Twilight Circus, Love Grocer, and
Zion Train are the three artists on
this album I have heard of before. Additionally, Issue Three has highlighted a
number of acts worth of further investigation. As with many samplers this comes
at a bargain price. This allows the curious reggae fan to investigate some damn
fine tunes from the Dubhead stable.
