Naked (One Little Indian)

*GUEST REVIEW*
He is a journalist, performance poet, reggae artist, OBE and all round activist. He is someone who was virtually illiterate until a jail sentence in his teens focused his energy on education and community improvement. Benjamin Zeph is many things beyond the popular image of a 21st Century dub poet. One of his first exposures to poetry was the word play of LKJ, Prince Far I, Big Youth and U-Roy. Naked, his 2004 album, has a lot in common with Asian Dub Foundation and Fundamental with a smile or Attila The Stockbroker with beats. It combines BZ's Rasta word play and singing with a wide variety of beats. The album is filled with strong, positive messages and reaches is peak on "Rong Radio Station." This track manages to combine the anti-celebrity, liberal thinking and a self confidence message with humour and a drum n bass soundtrack. Like you average Fall record, this album is dominated by one voice, is opinionated and in your face. However like some Fall tracks the beats are a little too backward looking for their own good. Now if only someone would get BZ to collaborate with DJ Rupture, MIA or Ri Ra.
