The Biggest Reggae One-Drop Anthems 2007 (Greensleeves, 2007)

The latest Greensleeves one-drop collection spans just one disc, but it is 18 tracks deep with just as many boom tunes as the two-disc set from 2006. This streamlined set kicks off in fantastic style with two European vocalists, Germany's Ray Darwin, who brings the hot, hot "People's Choice," and Italy's Alborosie, who serves up the classic-sounding "Rastafari Anthem." Pressure keeps the good vibes flowing with the high-qualilty effort "Be Free" and the ubiquitous "Love and Affection," also featured on Reggae Gold 2007. The album reaches an early low point with Munga's sappy "In Your Arms," on the over-exposed Heavenly riddim, but it bounces back with Lutan Fyah's compelling "Save the Juvenile" and Tarrus Riley's scorching single "Protect Yu Neck." The second half of the album has some ups and downs, but mostly ups. Highlights include the laid-back "Board House" by Nesbeth, "Really and Truly," a cut from Sizzla's I-Space album, and the twin ganja athems "Road Block" and "Oh What a Feeling." The set ends on a high note with Etana's "Roots," an up-tempo, feel-good throw back. For fans who want to keep current with the latest reggae hits, this collection is an excellent place to start.
