Chain Gang Mega Mix Volume 1 (Who Dun It, 1998) I'll keep this short and simple: this is a second-rate waste (maybe even third-rate). The beats are mediocre and bland at best, and, as with the new jack swing rhythm of Alfonso's "Punchenella" and Michael Anthony's "Things You Do," criminally cheesy at worst. At least, since this is a mega mix, the songs are each only a couple of minutes long. Despite appearances by Tanya Stephens, Richie Stephens, Scare Dem Crew, and Prezident Brown, the great majority of the artists on this album have names you've never heard of (and probably never will again). This doesn't necessarily mean that they're bad performers, but merely that these are bad -- or at least, uninspiring -- performances, by artist and producer alike. The same dull dancehall riddim runs through the first 7 songs, and then another carries the next 10, but after that, the beats switch up more often. . . and they still suck! So, it doesn't really matter. |
