Live (Polydor, 1977)

Live and Cuddly by Nomeansno and Counter Eurovision by Misty in Roots are a couple of live albums in my collection worth bothering with. Live by the Cimarons doesn't quite have the strength of these two albums but is worth pursuing. It was recorded at London's Roundhouse in the summer of 1977. Five roots reggae tracks are delivered here. This is UK roots, not that far from MIRoots or even Burning Spear, with a heavy emphasis on Rasta and Africa. Guitar solos and sometimes-patchy sound detract slightly from the album but this is still a fine effort. Live shows how far the five piece evolved after their initial meeting at Harlesden Methodist Youth Club via an African tour.
