Poor House Rockers (Wackies, 2002 [orig. released 1981])

*GUEST REVIEW*
Wackies record covers are generally decent.  The cover on Poor House Rockers doesn’t disappoint, with its neglected button ben that’s getting abused by large speakers.  Clive provides toasting over the top of some well played roots riddims.  The original album dates from 1981, and the vocals come in at varying speeds throughout the album.  They vary from laid-back Big Youth yelps through high-speed dancehall delivery that works well.  Like the Jah Batta set released by Wackies, this verges on the cusp of dancehall and late DJing.  This is very apparent on track 6, which tries to catch the listener out by speeding up and down.  The vocals take a little time to appreciate but overall this is a decent if quirky release from the Bullwackies imprint.
