Dancehall Rawkus (Rawkus, 1996) A decent sampling of dancehall tunes featuring mostly DJs with a few singers thrown in for good measure. Probably the best-known song on this collection is the Bounty Killer/Barrington Levy collaboration "Dangerously" (AKA "Living Dangerously"), an OK tune that is available on numerous compilations. More impressive is Merciless' deep-voiced "Girls, Girls," included here with a thumping hip-hop remix. Also remixed to nice effect (also by DJ Stretch Armstrong) is Terror Fabulous' solid "Call the Hearse." Frankie Paul meanwhile contributes "It Don't Bother Me," while Luciano adds "Poor & Simple," and Lenky Don "Dem a Bait," but nothing on Dancehall Rawkus is fresh enough to knock you off your feet. |
