Flimmy and the Prophet (Hollywood, 1996) Thank goodness Dread Flimstone evolved from his cheesy dance/pop/Soul II Soul sound of the early '90s into a cultural modern roots style, helped along the way by respected veteran singer Michael Prophet. Although an EP, Flimmy and the Prophet is solid, if only one track -- the orgasmic "Fight Jah Children" -- is spectacular. Prophet sings on 3 of the 5 tracks -- the other two being dubs -- and all featuring rich roots instrumentation with slight digital effects. I wish this would've been extended to a full album, but better to have just 5 nice cuts than 5 nice cuts and 5 fillers. |
