Dubmission (Island, 1996)

An able collection of dub tracks taken from various Island albums from several big-name stars.  Of course, you can't mention Island and dub together without mentioning Sly and Robbie, who contribute the classic rhythm tracks "Destination Unknown" (the music from Black Uhuru's "Chill Out") and "Demolition City" (from The Tamlins' "Baltimore").  Though credited to Black Uhuru, Sly and Robbie also produced "Ion Storm" and "Boof n' Baff n' Biff," two somewhat less electric tunes.  Aswad also throws in a couple of uninspired songs, "Flikaflame" and "Tuffist."  The best cut here may be the ultra-funky "I and I Survive," the dub of Burning Spear's "Slavery Days."  Linton Kwesi Johnson's "Reality" dub is also solid, though, and the dub of Gregory Isaacs' "Night Nurse" is nice to have, since it's not on the Night Nurse album, but it's not a terribly original track.
