Stone Pave Reggae (Joel, 1997)

*GUEST REVIEW*
Originally from Dominica, Garnet Challenger started his career in Canada's capital Ottawa and debuting in 1994 with the LP The Lion is Awake Now and in 1997 returned with an album called Stone Pave Reggae. The album features a couple of truly excellent songs in the opener "Taking It Higher" and track four "Whitehorse Man" that are well sung and very positive. His most famous song is featured here; Garnet wrote "African Unity" by request from Canada's ambassador to Cameroon and apparently received a warm reaction in that nation. Not everything here is good or even listenable, however. Stone features over-the-top synth horns and lyrics about Humpty Dumpty -- yes, the egg. Overall, the album Stone Pave Reggae is generally a positive, upbeat album, but a severe lack of consistency makes it hard to listen to it often.
