Heavyweight Rib Ticklers (Unfold, 2003)

*GUEST REVIEW*
Heavyweight Rib Ticklers is an unmixed compilation by Brighton based DJ Mr Scruff. Imagine if Madlib had done some real digging for gems when he did his Trojan compilation Blunted in the Bomb Shelter and you will start to understand the contents of this album.  In other words, this compilation is not for narrow-minded individuals who only collect 1970s JA reggae. The first half of the compilation is relatively traditional with funky tracks from The Wailers, Music Doctors, and The Observer Allstars.  The second half is more modern with smatterings of dancehall, jungle, and nu roots.  This compilation is the ideal present for the reggae fan who wants something a little obscure from both the past and the present but also wants to dance.  Not all the tracks are brilliant, but the obscure Wailers track is worth the price of admission alone. Well done, Mr Scruff.
