| New World Order (African Dance 1995) (orig.relesed1993) *GUEST REVIEW* Popularity of reggae has reached all parts of the Earth, and central Europe is no exception. Hypnotix, a reggae 'n dub band from the Czech Republic, is probably the best-known act from this part of world. They have succeeded throughout Europe and played abroad with some major artists like Lee Perry and Burning Spear. Their style should be easily described as a fusion between dub poetry (and artists like Mutabaruka) and experimental dub (Hypnotix reminds me many of On-U Sound production). New World Order is a very solid set driven by heavy bass lines and peppered with rock guitar. Most of the goodness comes from their singer (or dub poet) Bourama Badji, a Senegalian based in Prague. Badji's strong and emotive vocals provide perfect musical thunder. My personal favorites are "Roots," "Inkatha," and "Question." All in all, New World Order could satisfy both classic dub and experimental music fans. - Aja |
