Just Ragga 4 (Charm, 1993)

A no-frills collection, these tracks are straightforward, no gimmicks, hardcore dancehall from the early '90s.  The beats and lyrics are neither original nor stellar, but they are solid.  The most crossover or gimmicky (but still good) sound is probably found on Echo Minott's "Murder Weapon," which utilizes a sample from "The Peter Gunn Theme" similar to that used on Shaggy's hit "Oh Carolina."  The best songs here include Red Dragon's blazing "Yu Body Good," Mega Banton's non-remixed version of "Sound Boy Killing," and a couple of Terror Fabulous tunes, "Position" and "Drop It Cool."  Buju Banton also adds a pair of nice cuts with "Operation Ardent" and "Wicked Dickie," with Nadine Sutherland.  Nothing here will dazzle, but much of it you'll find likeable.
