Memories of the Future (Hyperdub, 2006)
*GUEST
REVIEW*
Dark beat, trip hop, dubstep, or downbeat electronica? No matter how Kode 9's output is
labeled, you just have to grace it with repeated listens. Memories is the debut album by vocalist Space Ape and producer Kode 9. This is an atmospheric album
that combines space, bass wash, and dub poetry from the focused Ape. It's eerie and suggests paranoia but suggests a wry hint of humour as well. Space has a unique ability to chant Orwell and Huxley with a voice that would bother
LKJ. Dubstep's answer to The Smiths have produced a great, if slightly alarming debut.
