| Walk Out (VP, 2007)

REVIEW*
The First Lady of Dancehall has released her new album Walk
Out in February 2007
on VP Records, four years after her last (and smashing) album Strip
Tease. Her current album is a mix between hardcore up-tempo dancehall
(e.g. "Big Up" and "It's Like That") and honeysweet songs in which she expresses her more sensitive side. Especially in the last category you can detect the growing maturity of Lady Saw. In "No Less Than A
Woman," she sings about her infertility ("... Don't having a child don't make any less than a woman..."). In "Not The World's Prettiest" she's giving presenting a positive self-image "...but I walk with
grace." Unfortunately, in a lot of songs, her raw, male side is too dominant. "Walk Out" is too
aggressive, and in "Power of the Pum" and "Like It" she uses the same tactics as macho, male counterparts: offensive, vein lyrics. I admit, some man are pigs, but don't give them too much attention and never imitate them.
Musically, Walk Out is not as good as her previous album. Especially the tracks that she produced herself (except for "Power Of the Pum") are of poor quality.
So overall, not her best album but her street credibility remains, and I expect her next album will shock the world.
