Let Jah Music Play (Vicious Circle, 2004)

*GUEST REVIEW*
Let Jah gathers together 21st century reggae for the vibrant French market. It's an easy entry into the market, as consumers don't have to order 11 different singles. The focus on this compilation is digi-dub of the upbeat variety. The content of the CDs is mechanistic modern reggae that is lighter and more humane that today's bashment. Roots singers provide the vocals on most tracks and aim to anchor the listener in the 1970s. However, the major problem with the content is the music. It doesn't have the paranoia of dubstep, the sloth and space of dub, the soul of roots, or the hedonism of dancehall. In short, it's not a bad album, but it struggles to be anything more than pleasant background music.
