Miss Cassie All Stars Volume 1 (Amazon Bluenile, 2006)

Miss Cassie All Stars is a riddim album riding, naturally, the Miss Cassie riddim, named after the tune from Dr. Cabull Bird. The music, a bouncy jam that's as adept at carrying a lovers rock song as a roots song, is the brainchild of producer Sean "Amazon" Woodhouse. The former is exemplified in Sata Lite's "You I Love" and the Gregory Isaacs-like "Miss Cassie," while the latter is represented by Mikey General's "Jah Provide," Lukeman's "Depending on You" and "Leaders of the World" from Cedric Myton of Congos fame. There are even dancehall elements in DJ tracks like "Babylon Trap," "Jamaica Nice" and the odd ' "Really Happy." which incorporates a healthy dose of hysterical laughter. After the first 12 tracks, interestingly, the album switches from the Miss Cassie riddim, with each of the final four songs featuring different music -- the highlight being Yachuru's "Kill Fighting," an ethereal roots ballad that's one of the most memorable tnes of the year.
