More Pressure Volume 1: Straight to the Head (Pressure Sounds, 2006)

*GUEST REVIEW*
Listening to this is like opening all the boxes in the storeroom at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Every single cut is an obscurity (or am I the only one without Ras Ibuna, Bongo Gene, I Kong, and The Mercenaries in heavy rotation?), a vinyl treasure rescued from the depths of oblivion. And every single cut is lethal, hitting on the very first listen with the message "I am a classic," like a story once known but forgotten. Apocalyptic bass, regal horns, beautiful harmonies, aching lyrics of sufferation, and vital dubs of each track (the way it was meant to be). Standout tracks include, well, all of them, but a few
worth mentioning are "Diverse Doctrine" by Ras Ibuna, produced by the great Karl Pitterson (A young Steel Pulse was so blown away by Pitterson's production of the dub that they sought him out.  The result? Handsworth Revolution.), "We Shall Overcome," a ton-load Michael Rose missive in proto-Waterhouse style, and "Free For All" by the Tafari Syndicate, a simply great riddim. A bona fide five stars.
