Mungo's Hi Fi Meets Brother Culture (Dubhead, 2002)
*GUEST
REVIEW*
Fans of Mr. Scruff mix tapes or A New Breed of Volume 3 have probably already heard some Mungo's Hi
Fi.
This album is collaboration between Tom Tattersall of Mungo's Hi Fi and vocalist Brother Culture.
Strictly speaking, this is an album of nu Glaswegian roots. However it's less playful and not as soulful as the
Butch Cassidy Sound System. Think of a slowed down version of
Zion Train, and your getting there. The digi-dub here is probably a bit too lightweight for many pallets.
The tracks vary from rub-a-dub dancehall to a more sedate roots style delivery.
Despite a couple of great little tracks, the whole album is just a little too flat.
Basically, it's not as interesting as Love Grocer or recent Twilight Circus material.
