Echo Dek (Creation, 1997)

*GUEST REVIEW*
Normally dub albums are associated with reggae artists.  However, some artists from other genres have also released dub albums.  These include Massive Attack, Gorillaz, and Primal Scream. Primal Scream were a mainstream Scottish indie band until they released Screamadelica.  It was heavily influenced by dub and club culture and was produced by reggae fan Andy Weatherall.  Echo Dek is a reworking of Vanishing Point by On-U Sound producer Adrian SherwoodVanishing Point is a highly rated Scream album, but this remix project does not meet the original's standard.  In typical Sherwood fashion, lots of effects and samples are used in the mix.  Some tracks are interesting, but overall the album is not together enough for my liking.  Primal Scream fans and On-U obsessives will get this album, and probably in the multi-seven-inch single format.  This is ironic, given that many of these tracks are ideal b sides.
