Reggae Culture: More Heartbeat Reggae Now! (Heartbeat, 1994)

While it doesn't have as many boom shots as the first Heartbeat Reggae Now!, this edition is more consistently good.  The only two really great tracks here are The Abyssinians' touching masterpiece "African Race" and Ashantiwaugh's (who?) gorgeous modern roots cut "Elegant Shape," produced by ex-Wailer Aston "Family Man" Barrett.  Also strong are Everton Blender's cultural dancehall ditty "Create a Sound," Marcia Griffiths' classic "Melody Life," and the Nigerian band The Mandators' energizing "Bubbler."  In fact, all of the songs here, save for a few generic snoozers -- Daddy Lizard's Good a de Body," Culture's "Natty Never Get Weary," and Gregory Isaacs' "End Up in Smoke" -- are nice and listenable, though not stellar.
