Reggae's Greatest Hits Volume 2 (Heartbeat, 1995) A strong grouping of cuts produced by the underexposed Roy Cousins, who produced one of Gregory Isaacs' first and best hits, "Way of Life." While this track is not included here, this compilation nevertheless contains several fantastic tunes that should not be missed. At the top of that list is the instant classic "In Danger," by Ken Bob. Once you get past the fact that he has two first names, you'll find this heart-rending tale unforgettable. Also excellent is one of my favorite early dancehall tracks, Charlie Chaplin's rollicking "Diet Rock," along with the Gaylads' "May Be for Long," Cornell Campbell's "Jah Jah Give Us Love," and the Meditations' "Stranger in Love." The second half of Volume 2 falters a bit compared to the first, but it still manages to provide the worthy "OK My Love" by Earl 16, and "Get Out of Hand" by Neville Mitchell. Note: Most of the tracks on this album had previously been released around 1990 as Wambesi All Stars. |
