Reggae's Greatest Hits Volume 8 (Heartbeat, 1995) A sound addition to the solid yet ill-named Reggae's Greatest Hits series, these songs cover Clancy Eccles-produced ska, rock steady, and early reggae from 1967-72. The best two cuts open the album, Hemsley Morris' cool, fun "Stay Loose" and Clancy Eccles' "The Rampage." Other nice selections include Higgs & Wilson's poignant "Don't Mind Me," Barry Wilson's "Live and Learn," Larry Marshall's romantic "Please Stay," and Eccles' own "Don't Brag, Don't Boast." There's even an early performance by a young, less husky-voiced Beres Hammond. While not the "greatest hits" of reggae, these songs are well-made and provide an opportunity to hear tracks that may be hard to find elsewhere. |
