Good's Gonna Happen (HitHouse/Anutha Media, 2005)

REVIEW*
Possessing a sweet, husky voice that convincingly sings songs of love and
consciousness, Hawaii-based Sahra Indio nonetheless falls short of fulfilling
the prophecy of this album's title. Like I said, her singing isn't the problem.
She can warble like an I Three but also turn up the grit when necessary,
utilizing both approaches on some of the better songs here like the rootical
"Bush Mama" and the cool-your-temper tone of "M16" and
"Rude Boy Tactics." The disc's downfall is in the backing tracks.
Probably produced on a tight budget, the resulting sound is quite cold. Programmed, sequenced riddims abound, with no attempt toward the organic sound
that roots reggae needs. And some overly rockish guitar licks here and there
don't help any. I wish I liked this album more; Indio's heart is obviously in
the right place and she's got the pipes to put some irie vibes across. But the
musical foundation sells her short, and that's a shame.
