Chant to Jah (Soul Jazz, 2002)

*GUEST REVIEW*
Chant to Jah is a strange mix of Sherwood-style production, house beats, cheesy effects, and Rasta samples. This is a slight departure for Soul Jazz, who are oft associated with reissues. Chant is more retro and unpolished than Pole or Rhthym & Sound, but still manages to be listenable. However, the wayward add-ins make for a mixed dub experience. This is an interesting album from the Cabaret Voltaire front man. But it ultimately sounds a little self-indulgent and one-man-in-a-studio-centric. Nice vocals; shame about the beats.
