Senorita Riddim (Kingstone, 2005) Germany is one of the hottest spots for reggae nowadays, with artists like Gentleman tearing up the charts and producers like Pow Wow and the Silly Walks Movement laying down riddims for acts like Turbulence and Luciano. Into this scene comes the Kingstone label with two star-studded one-rhythm albums, Seņorita and The Truth. Of the two, Seņorita is definitely the party album, a pounding, energetic dancehall beat accentuated by a mild Spanish guitar and discreet handclaps. T.O.K., Ce'Cile, and Buccaneer lend their recognizable names to the collection, contributing 3 of the strongest tunes in the posse cut "Runaway," the fun "Classical Party," and the self-explanatory "Shake Your Ass" -- while Bruce Barron, Daddy Maza, Lazy Youth, and Mustafa Sandal provide an international flavor, from Spanish to German to Middle Eastern, respectively. As far as one-rhythm albums go, Seņorita is about as fun as it gets. www.kingstone.de. |
