What’s the difference between jungle, drum n bass, dancehall and ragga? Well, I don’t really know, but all four genres are heavily influenced by dub in its many forms. Wired for Sound is a compilation of 60 tracks that are normally available only to DJs and twelve-inch collectors. The tracks are organized into three different mixes, the latest of which was recorded in 2003. The artists featured include General Degree, Cutty Ranks, Simpleton, Remarc, Dennis Brown and Trinity. The music is high-quality, hook-laden jungle with significant samples and DJ toasts from the reggae vaults. Should you dance to this? Yes, but remember to dance to the bass and not the drums unless you like exhaustion. If you’ve heard the odd jungle track on John Peel’s show or like the noisy elements of Kid 606, Knifehandchop, The Bug, and Shitmat, then give this mix album a try. It's much cheaper and less hassle that tracking down all the source material.
