| Setting Sail for
an Outernational Reggae Style (Buback Tontrager, 2004) *GUEST REVIEW* Beyond the pantomime of the annual Eurovision contest Germany has musical credibility. They make rather good techno, dubtronica, and minimal electronica, as well as having a history of krautrock, classical, and experimental music. Their hip-hop and nu dub output is not so highly rated. Setting Sail is Sound Navigator's first compilation. They are a Hamburg-based sound system who have worked with German and British artists. This is a reasonable attempt for a debut release but does tend to emphasise the links between Eat Static, Zion Train, house music, and Spiral Tribe. It all becomes a little plasticky and digi-sterile, leaving the listener a little disinterested. - ragudave |
