Clean Up Your Action (Ugly Man, 1995)

Sometimes you can tell an album is bad just by looking at it.  The bootleg-quality packaging should've been a hint.  The title track is the main highlight (some might argue the only highlight), its rootsy positivity having been featured on Pow Wow Records' great Level the Vibes compilation.  The rest is a dull, generic dancehall and digital roots hodgepodge that will have you fiddling around for the fast-forward button -- particularly the dismal remake of Smokey Robinson's "Tracks of My Tears."  Beyond the title cut (which you should get on Level the Vibes, not on this shoddy album), only the lovely lovers tune "Ain't Gonna Stand For It" and the righteous "Last Train" make Clean Up Your Action sufferable...barely.
