Strictly Riddim: Dancehall Reggae Volume 2 -- The Singers (Priority, 1995)

Like Volume 1 -- which focuses on DJs -- this collection is chock-full of nice tracks, but many of them may be too familiar to the seasoned dancehall fan.  Nevertheless, you are helpless to resist the power of classics like Beres Hammond's "My Wish" (AKA "I Wish"), Sanchez's "Missing You," and Johnny Osbourne's old school jam "Budy Bye," which is also remixed here with a smorgasbord of reliable hip-hop beats.  Osbourne additionally provides a more modern tune -- "Rock With You" -- that rides the enduring Barrington Levy "Murderer" rhythm.  Coco Tea and Garnett Silk each add a pair of his best and most recognizable tracks, the former with "Good Life" and "She Loves Me Now," and the latter with "Zion in a Vision" and "Splashing Dashing."  Even Junior Tucker isn't nearly as annoying as he usually is on "Move Along" and "Lock Me Up."  And when Junior Tucker comes up with enjoyable stuff, it must bode well for the album.
