Studio One Groups (Soul Jazz, 2006)

*GUEST REVIEW*
This collection explores rather than pillages the Studio One archive. It's the sort of compilation that will give Mark Lamarr a silly grin, with extended soul from The Silvertones. The focus is on close harmony groups. Think Congos meets Barbershop with less dub. Studio One did harmony rather well and this album is a joy to listen to. A mix of rare cuts and versioned riddims allows the listener to hear 19 different groups demonstrating their love of soul and gospel.
