| Studio One Soul 2 (Soul Jazz, 2006) *GUEST REVIEW* Soul Jazz keep on undertaking probes into the Studio One archive. They generally produce and package a fairly sound themed product. This time SJ revisit soulful reggae. It's not exactly a covers album, more a re-versioning experience. This is Mittoo heavy and has a mix of instrumentals and vocal cuts. The vocals include a couple of DJ cuts including Jazzbo doing his thing over Dawn Penn's "No No No." The quality of this album doesn't come close to Soul From Jamtown, but the tracks from Anthony Creary, Horace Andy, and Hortense Ells stand out. Sadly, some of the vocals sound a little too weak for music from the soul. However, Ken Boothe still shines through. - ragudave |
