| Trojan Explosion! Intensified Club Reggae Classics
(Trojan, 2004)
They boast about a back catalogue of more than 100,000 tracks. If this is true, then why does Trojan include particular tracks
("Lock Jaw," "Monkey Man," "Wonderful World Beautiful
People") on so many compilations? Club Reggae classics is a mish mash of styles and eras. We get the well-known and overexposed classics from the
'70s as well as ska, rock steady, dub, and dancehall action. Wayne
Wonder's "Bashment Girl" is a highlight and a '90s classic that probably deserves its own
mix tape. The two other dancehall efforts are well worth hearing, but the most militant track here is probably
"Am I Black Enough." However, the packaging and quotes from Bobbly Gillespie, David Holmes, Richard Feerless, et al are the most interesting part of this strange compilation. Best leave this album to Mojo readers and reggae virgins. |
