Mary Anne Hobbs Presents Warrior Dubz (Planet Mu, 2006)

*GUEST REVIEW*
The Breezeblock moniker may have gone, but the Mary Anne Hobbs show has not gone soft. Mary has done shows on old skool jungle, grime, Berlin, Aphex Twin, and Manchester in recent years. Her most notable success has been the dubstep primer. Warrior Dubz attempts to recreate the vibe of that show. Fourteen tracks from artists affiliated with grime and dubstep get included. Artists such as Burial and The Bug are the most well known. Tracks vary between dub techno ("Black"), dark drum 'n bass ("Hydra") to the bleak dubscape of "Kingstown." This is a great compilation for the bass-heads out there looking for evolution. Even hardcore 'step fans will need this album for the eight exclusives. Who can fail to enjoy the seismic Loefah and layered Burial tracks?
