X-Ray Music: A Blood & Fire Dub Directory (Blood & Fire, 1999)

*GUEST REVIEW*
For those who think the dub vaults have been over-exposed it's best to avoid this release. X-Ray Music is a selection of tracks extracted from the first 29 Blood & Fire albums. The Upsetter coined the phrase to describe mix- led reggae. The phrase is an interesting and apt one, and explains the genre succinctly to non-reggae fans. This compilation favours Tubby and Jammy, followed by Clive Chin and Lee Perry. There are the cool Neu sound effects ("Extraordinary Version"), excellent tracks ("Bag a Wire Dub," "Cool Dub"), and the otherworldly ("Noah Sugar Dub"), as toasted over on the bonus disc of Divine Madness. But for some reason this album is less of a complete project than Dubwise 1 and Dubwise 2. Could it be the lack of rootsy vocals or toasting that affects the flow or have Blood & Fire fans heard these tracks too often?
